Since April is National Poetry Month, I wanted to share some great poetry activities to do with your child. Scholastic has created a wonderful page full of fun ways to introduce and experiment with poetry. Through this site, you can easily publish your poem online, have a generator help you write a poem, try to stump a friend with math poem riddles and much, much more! There is even exercises for those older students who would like to be a bit more challenged.

You can check all this out here: http://teacher.scholastic.com/poetry

Lastly, here is a poem from my favorite poet…my mom.

My name is Linus, I flew from above;
So I could fill you with friendship and love.

You are special and one of a kind;
You're an original, the best I could find!

So when you’re down, and feeling blue;
Know there's only one like you.

Then hug me tight ‘til you feel okay;
And then we'll have a happy day!

She is a wonderful poet who has written personal and creative poems for weddings, birthdays, retirement parties, etc. Currently, she writes specialized poems for four different plush monsters, called Mika Monsters ( www.mikamonsters.com).
